This amazing serum by ila is super luxurious. It retails for $109 for 1 oz. I love making facial serums and have made a much less expensive serum that is very effective. I love my homemade anti-aging serum and I love that I spent about $109 for 12 ounces instead of 1 ounce!
Ingredients: wild-grown argania spinosa kernal (argan) oil*, rosa canina (rosehip seed) oil*, santalam spicatum (sandalwood), rosa damascena flower (rose otto) oil, tocopherol extract (vitamin e oil), citronellol, farnesol and linalool.
Argan oil 3 TBS
Rosehip seed oil 2 TBS
Jojoba oil 2 TBS
Borage seed oil 1TBS (optional)
60 drops vanilla essential oil
40 drops grapefruit essential oil
40 drops tangerine essential oil
10 drops frankincense essential oil (optional)
2 capsules astaxanthin (optional)
This recipe is so simple! Pour all ingredients into a pyrex measuring cup and stir! If you decide to use the astaxanthin, poke a hole in the capsule with a pin and squeeze it into the mixture. It will be very dark red when it comes out. This mixture will fill 3 1 oz bottles.
How to Use
Rub this serum all over face and neck morning and night. I love the amazing vanilla citrus scent. It reminds me of eating an orange cream popsicle!
Where to Buy Ingredients
I buy most ingredients from Mountain Rose Herbs. The vanilla essential oil I purchased from Amazon and bought the NOW brand. It is diluted with jojoba oil. I recently purchased 16 ounces of argan oil at Making Cosmetics for $37.00 plus shipping. I was very impressed with the sweet, nutty scent of this oil.
Mountain Rose Herbs Shopping list:
Argan oil 4 oz. $24.50
Rosehip seed oil 8 oz $18.50
Jojoba oil 8 oz $24.00
Amazon Shopping list
NOW vanilla oil 1 oz $17.00
NOW grapefruit essential oil 1 oz. $5.69
NOW tangerine essential oil 1 oz. $5.39
By spending $95.08 on the above ingredients you could make 12 ounces of serum! Compare that to 1 ounce of Ila serum for $109.
Borage seed oil 4 oz $16.50
Frankincense essential oil 0.5 oz $17.00
NOW Astaxanthin $10.82
Why Use Astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin is a potent antioxidant. It is 65 times more powerful than Vitamin C, 54 times more powerful than beta-carotene, and 14 times more powerful than Vitamin E. It heals the skin from free radical damage. There are not many products using astaxanthin since it is a relatively new discovery. That is one of the reasons that I love making my own products. I can incorporate the newest ingredients without paying a big price tag.
Substitutes for Ingredients
This serum is super flexible. You could substitute several different oils and essential oils. Try adding some almond, grapeseed or coconut oil. Add a few drops of sandalwood, helichrysum or rose essential oil. Play around with it until you come up with your own amazing serum!
I purchase brown glass bottles at Specialty Bottle and Sunburst Bottle. I like putting this serum in a 1 or 2 oz bottle with a treatment pump. I buy these online at Sunburst Bottle.
